What's Wrong with My Appliance, Central Heat and Air?

How often have you had a problem with your appliance, central heat and air and you dont know what to do about it? Its frustrating and expensive to try to have a repairman come in when you dont know what the problem is. You can save yourself a lot of time and money if you are able to fix many simple problems yourself or at least determine the problem before hiring a professional to fix it for you or buying expensive parts.

Washer and Dryer

Your washer and dryer are some of the most often used appliances in the home. Many common problems with them can be fixed with small methods or repair kits you can purchase from the manufacturer. If your washer shakes across the floor while it is in use, the agitator may be loose.

A dryer vent cleaner is a great way to keep your dryer free of excess lint that will build up over time and clog your dryer. This also causes your motor to work harder to dry the clothing inside. Keeping it free and clear at all times allows your dryer motor to work like new for many years to come.

Dishwasher

When your dishwasher breaks down, its hard to know what is wrong with it. If water is not draining out after a cycle, then your drain is probably clogged. It could be a clog that is deep inside the filter area that you can not see. You may need to remove the drain hose and clear it out or replace the drain hose completely.

If the dishwasher has a burning smell while running, the protective covering over your dishwasher racks may be wearing out and burning during the wash. If your dishwasher will not start at all, make sure your door switch is working properly.

Refrigerator

We all know how much we depend on our refrigerator and it can be a real disaster if it starts to go out on you unexpectedly. How can you know what is wrong with your refrigerator? Here are some common problems and what they may mean.

If your refrigerator is leaking water from the bottom or inside the fridge, it could mean a drain hose is loose or that your freezer is not defrosting property. Rattling noises could mean there is something wrong with your condenser fan. It could also mean that your drain pan is loose and needs adjusting.

Central Heat and Air

Many of us have central heat and air in our homes and from time to time, we may experience problems with it. How can you recognize what is wrong? First, ask yourself these questions:

  • Is the system not turning on when you set the thermostat?
  • Is it clicking on but not actually heating or cooling?
  • Is it running but not actually heating or cooling properly?

These questions can help you determine if the problem is in your thermostat, in the wiring, in the motor or even in the circuit board. Many of these problems will have to be fixed by a professional but some simple fixes, such as dirty filters or loose wiring, can easily be done yourself.
