Los Angeles: Air Conditioning Not Cooling
Throughout Los Angeles, air conditioning is a key component of your everyday life. You need to have air flowing into your home and you rely on it not only for comfort but many times, it saves lives. When you notice that your air conditioning is not cooling properly, take the time as soon as possible to check out this problem thoroughly. The sooner you tackle it, the less likely you are to face larger problems.
Central Air Cooling Issues
If you find that your central air conditioner is not keeping your home cool, but it seems to be running, this could mean it has been neglected in the maintenance area. Your air conditioner has an outside condenser, which is one of the largest problems for it. Maintaining this area, as well as doing a few other cleaning steps will prolong the life of your system and, in fact, improve the use. In Los Angeles, air conditioning units are clogged with debris!
Here are some steps to getting your air conditioning system back up and running.
- Turn off the power to your air conditioner. To do this, you should have a breaker that controls it that needs to be flipped. You may also find a panel on your home near your outside compressor. The power needs to be fully off at the source before you begin.
- Next, look at that outdoor condenser. Because these units pull air in and have fans in them, it is easy for them to have leaves or other debris surrounding them. Remove all of this debris from around the outside of the condenser, including the base.
- Next, remove the protective grille over the top of the condenser. Inside here, you are likely to find more debris that's somehow gotten in. Remove any of it. Then, be very careful not to bend the fins, but wipe them off with a towel. You can use a soft brush if necessary as well.
- Next, without getting any of the wiring or motor web, you can hose off the fins located within the top grille. Be very careful when doing so.
- Finally, if your owner's manual allows for it, use a lubricant on the motor itself. Do not put too much lubrication on the motor, as this will cause more problems than worth!
- Reassemble the air conditioning unit. It is also important to turn back on the power and test it.
If you continue to have problems with the air conditioner, Los Angeles, air conditioning professionals should be called to your home. They will inspect the unit for possible problems, and uncover any wiring or other electrical malfunctions.
Often, a simply cleaning will improve the amount of air able to get into the unit, and that will provide you with better cooling throughout your home. Regular maintenance like this on your air conditioning system should take place every few months in Los Angeles. Air conditioning is a major component to your home. Have a professional check your system out each year at the start of the season, too.
